Meet Skaters Choice Skate Shop Owner Linda Dorso Boileau (aka Coach Shirley N. Sane)

Her grandparents owned their first skating rink in the 1930′s. Linda’s parents took over that rink when she was 5.  That was the start of her long competitive skating and coaching career.

She was an artistic skater who found her niche in speed skating. She was a member of the first US Pan Am Team bringing home 3 medals.  That same year she was a member of the US World Team and Olympic Sports Festival Team medaling at both events on flat and banked tracks. A knee injury at World’s cut her competitive years short but gave birth to her coaching career. As a speed coach she had champions in every age division coaching one of the top teams in the country for over ten years earning her the USARS Speed Coach of the Year Award and the prestigious induction into the National Speed Coaches Hall of Fame.

Linda has had the privilege to have coached and trained several Olympic medalists in the years before they traded in their roller skates for ice blades.  She helped organize and coach speed clinics at the Olympic Training Center and lectured for USARS Coaching Seminars across the country. She has been testing and helping develop new skating equipment for the last 25 years. She is still a personal trainer for speed skaters and a Director for youth roller hockey showing her ongoing dedication and passion for all aspects of the sport of Roller Skating.

After playing Roller Derby during the 2006 season (at the young age of 48), "Shirley N. Sane" acquired a new passion in skating and it is called ROLLER DERBY!
In 2007, Shirley founded Roller Derby University to help promote the sport and to educate both Senior and Junior leagues, coaches, and skaters. She not only does boot camps and consulting through Roller Derby University but has been an active Coach in many of the Blood and Thunder Camps in the United States, Canada and Europe.

Her expertise in speed skating style and form and her vast knowledge of training, derby, and skating equipment make for  extremely valuable boot camps for beginner through advanced leagues.  Shirley has a UNIQUE ability to critique/dissect skating form in even the most advanced skaters enabling them to increase their speed and power with less effort.  With being involved as a competitor or coach for almost 50 years she has truly proven that skating is not just a “hobby” for her but has been her lifelong passion.
